New for Churches - Workplace Training Course for Christians.
The Church generally encourages her children to ‘Go to Sunday School’ but often forgets to equip and envision them for ‘Monday School’. The result is kids that look like Christians on a Sunday but resemble their non-believing mates for the rest of the week.
By and large this pattern is repeated as God’s children progress from full-time education to a life of work. We end up ‘going to Church’ and ‘going to work’ and thus our lives become segmented into a holy/secular divide.
Scripture encourages us to meet with believers and we should never give up getting together with fellow Christians. However, the meeting place is not the market place. Many of God’s people are constrained in their faith through a lack of understanding and knowledge of what it is to be called and chosen by God. This lack of vision robs those around them of truth and life.
Regardless of whether we receive an income or not, most of us spend a lot of time at work where we interact with many people who do not know Jesus. They are friends and colleagues, managers and supervisors, customers and clients, suppliers and wholesalers - a ‘mission field’ that we wake up to every Monday. They are the sheep without a shepherd. God has called His children to be salt and light in their place of work and the Holy Spirit confirms that, although the harvest is plentiful, the Kingdom is short on workers!
This simple six-session course aims to help envision the Church on its workplace calling, encourage God’s people to work with, and for, Jesus and equip them to be Kingdom ambassadors and marketplace missionaries.
The course encourages Christians to discuss the potential of a Holy Spirit-filled life worked out in the daily harvest field of their job. Through a brief introduction and some useful scripture each topic is opened up for group discussion. The central part of each session subject is to discuss and exchange thoughts and ideas. In this way believers can begin to work out the unique, history-making calling on their own life. Because of this dialogue a topic might continue for two hours in a cell/house group or be limited to half-an-hour in a workplace lunchtime.
Each session always concludes by encouraging attendees to commit to prayer and action. Ideally, the leader of a course will be a born-again believer with a vision for workplace ministry, someone who has real-life examples of God at work in his/her own job.
It is a wonderful thing to see the ‘lights come on’ in the hearts of believers as they begin to understand the extent of their workplace calling. A church that is active daily at the centre of the nation’s economy is going to make a miraculous difference!
People who have completed the course say:
"How we present ourselves and our faith to others in our places of work is, I believe, one of the best ways of revealing Christ to others. This course is extremely helpful in presenting ways
in which we can do this, and by offering encouragement too to each other in our Work Mission"

"This programme is a very powerful way of exploring how to live out your faith in what can almost be a no-go area - the world of work. I gained enormous insights in to my own beliefs, thoughts and feelings as well as how to use the opportunity to witness to the importance of God in my life. If only I could go back and make up for lost time".
